A Letter from The Chairman of the Board
There is no doubt that the San Francisco Bay Area is a dynamic, global hub with a magnetic attraction to a diverse group of individuals who choose to come here. Close to eight million people live in our eleven counties comprising of 256 cities and towns. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, 2.1 million more will settle here in the next few years. We’re at the apex of the digital universe, the birthplace of biotech, and the center of advancements in healthcare as well as the home to world-class sports and an eclectic art world.
The Bay area is known for its social consciousness and cutting edge perspective. It’s common for movements that start here to ripple out into the rest of the world. Needless to say, we are influential. Yet only two to four percent of us attend church on a regular basis. Five million are unchurched or have no religious affiliation whatsoever. There are more than 3200 churches in our area, but many are isolated, operating in silos which greatly diminishes the potential impact that can be achieved through cooperation and collaboration.
In 2013 a group of leaders from the faith community, the marketplace, and the nonprofit sector began to ponder what might happen if rather than operate independently, we connect to each other. Could we catalyze a Gospel movement in the Bay Area? The outcome of these conversations is Transforming the Bay with Christ (TBC).
Our vision for TBC is to ignite a kingdom movement by focusing on connecting and equipping leaders and supporting churches to
Unify and collaborate for even greater outreach.
Amplify their efforts in response to the needs of the underserved in their communities.
Multiply and plant more churches that serve the unique population of the Bay Area.
We want every person in the Bay Area to experience a difference in their body, in their soul, and in their spirit through the life-changing work of God and to come to know Jesus Christ personally. TBC is blessed by the commitment of this Cabinet who pray for the team and offer guidance for our God-given tasks. I consider it a privilege to be part of this movement.
