TBC's LifeWork exists to foster, shepherd, and empower the church body as it lives and works out in the world and to equip marketplace leaders by initiating robust conversations around Faith and Work.

Season 1 Episode 1

theology of Work

Genesis tells the story of God’s work of creation, the first work of all.

It is the prototype for all work that follows.  Here, we see God at work and learn how God intends us to work.

Laboring in God’s image, we work in creation, on creation, with creation and—if we work as God intends—for creation.

“LET US MAKE HUMANKIND IN OUR IMAGE, ACCORDING TO OUR LIKENESS; AND LET THEM HAVE DOMINION OVER THE FISH OF THE SEA, AND OVER THE BIRDS OF THE AIR, AND OVER THE CATTLE, AND OVER ALL THE WILD ANIMALS OF THE EARTH,[B] AND OVER EVERY CREEPING THING THAT CREEPS UPON THE EARTH.” GENESIS 1:26

episode 2

mission and the marketplace

How we view our work – in service to ourselves or in service to others – makes all the difference in our ability to be witnesses for Christ.

Unfortunately, people in the workplace today are often blind to God’s design and purpose for their work. The world teaches us to look out for number one – meaning ourselves. We are taught to climb the ladder of our own success.

Society tells us that title and salary are how we know we’re making it. If we want to follow God at work, this thinking needs to shift. God wants us to make Him our priority and see success at work according to His definition.

Episode 3

The battleground

Throughout the bible, we see God's men and women placed in situations that oppose their faith and values.

In the same way, we can't expect to be comfortable, secure, or in control in our work. In fact, we should expect trials because of our faith, and prepare to bless in response.

"BLESSED IS THE MAN WHO REMAINS STEADFAST UNDER TRIAL, FOR WHEN HE HAS STOOD THE TEST HE WILL RECEIVE THE CROWN OF LIFE, WHICH GOD HAS PROMISED TO THOSE WHO LOVE HIM." JAMES 1:12

Episode 4

work as worship

Many people grumble about where they work or who they work for.

They are unhappy with their current work situation and treat work as a simple means to an end. But things radically change when we can shift to the mindset that we are working for God, not another person or an organization.

When we start viewing our work as a means of worship, we completely change our attitudes and shift to doing our jobs with excellence, integrity and diligence.

"WHATEVER YOU DO, WORK AT IT WITH ALL YOUR HEART, AS WORKING FOR THE LORD, NOT FOR HUMAN MASTERS,  SINCE YOU KNOW THAT YOU WILL RECEIVE AN INHERITANCE FROM THE LORD AS A REWARD. IT IS THE LORD CHRIST YOU ARE SERVING." - COLOSSIANS 3:23-24
